Gakona, AK to Soldonta, AK

Today was the most beautiful drive filled with glaciers, mountains, rivers, streams, and estuaries. Did I mention glaciers and mountains?

We saw the most amazing landscapes until we reached Anchorage. We stopped for lunch at the Fat Ptarmigan where we had artisan pizza and salad. We headed onto Target, because I needed all of the allergy and cold meds. $45 later and armed with Benadryl, cough drops, Flonase, and Zicam, we were back on the road to Soldotna. We ended up stuck in a traffic jam (from a wreck) next to Potter Marsh just south of Anchorage where we waited for over an hour. (Apparently, this is not a long wait according to the locals. It's not uncommon for this section of road to be closed for 12 hours and you're told to turnaround and go back to where you came from and to try again tomorrow. No, there isn't a detour or a side road.)

After getting settled at our AirBnB, I eagerly took a shower. We headed over to what we'd call a fish fry - except nothing fried. All grilled. Halibut, salmon. Wild boar. We met some neat locals and some fellow tourists and ate some amazing food. All by our AirBnB host who also runs a fish camp and guide service. It's peak salmon season and halibut season is just starting up.
